I am Florian van Dalen (1989), a materials researcher and visual artist working in Germany and the Netherlands. After studying Product Design at ArtEZ in Arnhem, I completed a master’s degree at the Institute for Ceramic and Glass Art at the University of Applied Sciences in Koblenz. Here, I deepened my fascination with glass, a material that often forms the basis of my sculptures and installations, sometimes combined with other materials.
My work is based on systemic thinking and material research. Using self-imposed rules, I explore how form, rhythm and construction can reinforce each other. Bauhaus principles such as form follows function and the Charles and Ray Eames credo less is more inspire my practice, in which simplicity and clarity are central.
Storytelling is central to my work, with abstract, layered forms that engage in dialogue with light, movement and space, and the viewer.
I invite you to explore my website further and discover more about my projects, processes and sources of inspiration.
