A stroke of happy colour

A Stroke of Happy Colour originated from my fascination with the simplicity and ingenuity of a glazing brush. The bristles, which are normally stitched between two layers of wood with thread, caught my attention because of this ingenious system. This led to a study of form in which the bristles were replaced by a glass plate and the stitching was translated into a more stable construction to support the glass. The connections consist of two hollow brass tubes that have been hammered on both sides so that they grip the glass and wood firmly.

The glass is coated with a thin layer of titanium that evokes soft, subtle colours with an iridescent effect. The work appears simple at first glance, but its details reveal a wealth of connection and form. With its subtle colour and appearance, it adds a happy accent and an extra layer to the surroundings.
